As an online health coach, your business is only as successful as your branding.

Wait, what?! But that has nothing to do with my amazing, helpful health coaching services…

It really does. 😎

It’s essential to establish meaningful and consistent branding for your health coaching business, particularly if you primarily offer online services.

Why branding is essential for your health coaching business

Your brand is your visual identity—it’s how people associate and recognize you and your business, and how they relate to what you’re offering them (including how they interpret the ways in which your health coaching services can make their lives better!).

Your health coach business branding includes things like your logo, fonts, color scheme, and imagery, as well as the language and tone of voice you use in your copywriting.

These elements are used in a wide range of materials that contribute to branding your health coaching business online:

Creating each of these business materials in a way that’s consistent and “on-brand” (i.e. relevant to your health coaching services, and who you are as a health coach) plays a significant role in how potential clients perceive you, your business—and, ultimately, whether they choose to purchase health coaching services from you.

So, let’s chat about what great branding means for your health coaching business—and how to create it!

Branding + design options for health coaches

Larger companies (yes, even those with a wellness focus!) make a significant investment in branding—essentially everything they produce, from ad campaigns, product packaging, social media posts, and even internal memos follow strict brand guidelines.

But even for independent health coaches who don’t have the funds for a large marketing/graphic design team, it’s still important (and possible!) to establish quality, consistent branding for your health coaching business.

There are quite a few design software options available for creating professional-looking imagery. One of the most popular is Canva—which is, essentially, design software for “non-designers.”

Canva is a great (free!) resource for creating branded materials for your wellness business—everything from logos to health and wellness infographics to Instagram posts to Pinterest pins to wellness newsletter email headers.

Now, of course, no software completely replaces the creativity and expertise of a professional graphic designer. (And, if you have the funds to work with a pro designer who can develop all your branded material for you, that’s awesome!)

However, many health coaches, especially those just starting out and most in need of these branding elements, struggle to afford the cost of full-scale professional branding and graphic design.

So, that’s where DIY design software (like Canva) can help out significantly.

Canva is completely free to use. (Yay!)

They also have a Pro plan with some additional features and upgrades (more on that below if you’re interested!). But, you can get started with the free plan, or try their Pro Plan free for 30 days.

4 ways to brand your health coaching business

Here are four important branded elements you should have for your health coaching business—and that you can use a free tool like Canva to create:

1. Wellness-inspired logo

If you don’t yet have a logo for your health coaching business, you can easily create one with Canva. Though it’s possible to design a logo from scratch, you can also work from thousands of templates.

Note: Though you don’t have to work off a template (you can also start with a blank slate if you’d like!), Canva does offer thousands of free templates to use as a starting point. If you don’t have a specific design concept in mind, this makes the design process so much more efficient, as you can simply switch between templates to try them out with your business name or the specific content you’ll be including. (And, at the very least, the templates can serve as a source of ideas or inspiration!)

Here are a few examples of Canva’s logo templates that could be used for a wellness business:

Even if you do already have a functional “logo” in use on your website (for example, Squarespace—my very favorite website platform for health coaches—allows you to easily create pseudo text-based logos by styling your site title font), it’s a good idea to create high-resolution logo files in black, white, and any brand colors.

These logo files can then be used on other materials for your health coaching business, such as your Pinterest pins, social media images (Instagram posts, Facebook cover photos, etc.) and more.

2. Pinterest templates for your wellness content

Pinterest is a key player in the top marketing strategy I recommend for health coaches and wellness professionals. And, success there requires the creation of lots (and lots and lots!) of branded pins.

Fortunately, this process is made 1000x easier by creating branded templates in Canva—and then duplicating those templates for each new blog post or promotion you’re sharing on Pinterest. We aim for 3-4 different designs for each piece of content (e.g. wellness blog post).

Here are a few examples of wellness-related pin templates you can create with Canva:

And, whichever other platforms your health coaching business is on (Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube… etc.), Canva allows you to style your social page and posts with custom artwork to match your branding.

3. Email headers for your wellness newsletter

Branded email headers add a professional touch to your email marketing—for example, your email newsletters and welcome automations. With Canva, you can quickly and easily create both static headers (for example, logos that stay around in all of your emails), as well as promotional banners to call attention to special offers or information.

4. Health + wellness opt-in gifts

You know how I feel about opt-in gifts to grow your email list (you should have one!), and Canva is a great way to create these branded resources and materials—whether that’s a digital healthy recipe book, fitness video training, or anything else you offer as an opt-in “freebie teaser” of your health coaching services.

What is Canva Pro—and do you need it?

Now, all of the branded health coaching materials and resources above can be made for free with Canva’s Free plan—which offers thousands of free templates, photos and graphics, and hundreds of fonts.

However, if you’ll be doing ongoing design work like this (many health coaches do), or your needs require specific fonts or branding elements, the Canva Pro plan also includes some beneficial and time-saving features:

  • the ability to upload your own fonts and logos (necessary if you’ve already developed branding elsewhere and your font isn’t included on the Free plan)

  • access to 60+ million stock images and videos (ummm, that’s a lot!)

  • the ability to create a Brand Kit—pre-loaded font, color and logo settings for quick and easy (and consistent!) visual identity across all designs

  • one-click design re-size (to rework the same image across different media types—Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, etc.)

  • an unlimited number of folders to organize your designs in cloud storage

If you’d like to try it out, Canva offers a free 30-day trial so you can start designing and see how it works for you before committing (woohoo!):
